Andrew Charlton

Andrew Charlton continues to possess a very strong understanding of the field of economics, something that has served as the foundation for his career from the very beginning. A former economics advisor to then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, as well as both a Rhodes Scholar and a Doctor of Economics, Charlton has done a considerable amount when it comes to increasing people’s understanding of the Economics field, particularly through such works as Fair Trade for All and Economics.

It is through these publications at Andrew Charlton has attempted to provide the reader enlightenment concerning the inextricable relationship between environmental sustainability and poverty. Throughout his publications, Charlton has attempted to show how a decrease in the epidemic of poverty throughout Australia is directly related to a wave of climate pragmatism; a relationship that continues to persist through the Australian parliament to this day.

Now working in a position for Coles, Charlton is hopeful that economically-friendly and fair trade policies will continue to be a part of the national discussion, and that Australia will be continue to consider the need for economic policies that take both the environment and the issue of poverty into consideration.

Andrew Charlton was once Australia’s representative to the G20 Leaders Forum, an honor he received during his service within the Prime Minister’s cabinet. He was also honored to have been recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum during that same period, and to have been his country’s representative at the Copenhagen Climate Conference.
