Disklace announces Lacewatcher Pro for Enterprise and SMB customers

Rehovot, Israel, Aug 23, 2010 --- Disklace announces the availability of Lacewatcher Pro for Enterprise and SMB customers. Lacewatcher Pro preventive maintenance and alert feature supports the daily control of disks and storage arrays transparently and effectively.

The "Lace Level" indicator, introduced by DiskLace, scientifically measures the data quality of storage hard drives across the organization's network, such as storage arrays and desktop or laptops disk drives. Lace Level indicates the fragmented storage area status compared to an optimized files allocated disk drive and reflects the drive condition regarding the needed defragmentation operation.

Lace level corresponds to server performance and User Experience of network clients.

Disklace’s technology is currently installed on more than 300,000 business and consumers users Microsoft® Window workstations.

Lacewatcher Pro central monitoring aggregates network fragmentation levels - and trigger defrag operations as needed as opposed to periodical operations which may result in long unavailability of critical servers and services.

Storage systems should be carefully managed to minimize defragmentation in order to avoid:

1.  Workstation users' frustration experiencing longer and longer response time due to inefficient storage management in their workstation and servers which results in:

  • Labor waste while users are moving slowly in front of their workstations
  • Customer satisfaction drop due to slower service

2. Irreversible damage to the storage disks and systems which results in workstations/storage               replacements expenses (CAPEX)  earlier than expected

3. Unavailability - The value and criticality of data is increasing exponentially while the percentage of data that is actually managed is decreasing.

Lace Level is a statistical scalar factor, calibrated by the results of measuring many thousands of real disks of different type and size from users all over the world. The method which implements this factor is patent pending.

The factor data is collected from the physical position of the various file components on the disk and related to the delay caused by this disorder. It also takes into account the distribution of free areas on the disk. This distribution best describes the way the particular computer is being used. The "holes" between the files are the result of deletion of old data on the disk, and therefore reflect the real pattern of the usage of that disk.

A statistical moment factor is calculated for all the elements that cause delay in reading or writing a file. This is then compared to an "ideal" theoretical disk containing the same data as the analyzed disk. The result is shown on a logarithmic scale, similar to the Richter scale method used in measuring earthquakes. The statistical approach ensures usage of the same measurement unit of fragmentation level regardless of the disk size - from tiny USB storage device to 4TB logical disk.

Hard drives are vulnerable and may reach the point of no return.  If you let them reach an advanced fragmentation level, defrag operation will no longer recover them to optimal status. Crossing the point of no return is to be avoided: past that threshold, the hard disk performance will decrease, until it eventually becomes unusable.

About Disklace

Disklace presents a revolutionary software solution that combines efficient fragmentation management with a control system. The company's name binds the DISK carrying the data with LACE, a creation in which the empty spaces are as important as the material the lace is made of.  https://www.disklace.com
