Buy the Right Industrial Air Compressor

Most industrial compressors that you'll find at work sites are powered by gas or diesel fuel.

Get the right air compressors for the job

Industrial air compressors are more powerful and higher-quality air compressors than those typically found around a home or garage workshop. Air compressors like someone would use at home typically have lower PSI, which is pounds per square inch, and lower CFM, whichis cubic feet per minute. These are important ratings that give you an idea of how powerful the compressor is.

Industrial compressors generally need to have much higher ratings and more power for industrial uses to power heavy pneumatic equipment.

Industrial gas air compressor uses

Most industrial compressors that you'll find at work sites are powered by gas or diesel fuel. This makes them portable as well as powerful. Electric compressors can be portable in the sense that you can move them from place to place. But they must always be used near an electric outlet or a generator.

Using a generator with an electric compressor isn't the ideal situation, however. It takes a very powerful generator to power an electric compressor. Just starting the compressor takes a great deal of electrical current which means it pulls more out of the generator and shortens the running time considerably.

Compressors powered by fuel obviously don't require electricity or a generator of any type. They only need available fuel in order to run as long as you need them to. The most powerful electric compressors can be used in industrial situations, particularly where they're permanent installations that draw heavily on the building' s power supply. Fuel-powered compressors cost more than electric models but even with the high cost of gas they're often less expensive to run because those electric compressors use huge amounts of electricity.

Two-stage industrial compressors

A two-stage industrial air compressor is the most common type you'll find in situations where a heavy-duty compressor isneeded. These compressors offer more air compression and usually have storage for extra air to make it easy to switch out the tanks. These compressors offer higher horsepower which means a more efficiently running machine.

Compressors used in industrial situations should be certified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and should bear the ASME certification on the compressor itself. This shows that the compressor meets quality and safety standards for industrial uses. Depending on the industry purchasing the compressor, it can be illegal to purchase one that doesn't bear the ASME certification.

In every case, whether industrial or otherwise, compressors bearing the ASME certification are safer simply because they've been so thoroughly tested. These units require certain safety devices like a safety valve that will release air pressure inside the tank if it builds up to a dangerous level. Too much air pressure can actually cause an air tank to explode and the safety valve is designed to prevent that.

Purchasing well-known brands is also a good way to ensure the safety of equipment. A well-known industrial brand like a Porter Cable air compressor is something that's been used by companies for decades. You can be assured of the quality of the equipment if you go with a well-known name.
