Power.com is a site that lets you log into several social networks at once.  Currently Power integrates Orkut, MySpace, and Hi5.  Earlier this month, Bambi Francisco reported that, Facebook filed a law suit against Power for infringing on Facebook's trademarks and copyrights, and its unauthorized solicitation, use and storage of Facebook's users' login information to gain unauthorized access to Facebook's network.

Steve Vachani, CEO and founder of Power.com, believes user-generated content should be owned by the user, not the site.  In this interview with Francisco, he shares his views about the evolution of social networks.  With Power.com and its 5 million users, Vachani is seeing all sorts of behaviors in the evolution of social networks.

Vachani explains that trends lean towards people spending most of their time on one social network, sending messages and posting photos.

With Power, he is trying to create tools to send photos and messages more easily.

With these social networks, such as MySpace, Facebook, and LinkedIn, people choose what they use based on different aspects of their life.  For example, LinkedIn is the choice for professional life with a formal environment, MySpace is focused on entertainment and music, and Facebook is focused toward your close network of personal friends and professional friends.

Vachani emphasizes that Power.com isn't aimed at creating a new site.  It's aimed at letting users access and update their existing sites all at one time.   Vachani makes clear that, "Content should not be owned by one site, it should be owned by the user." Thus the goal of Power.com is to break down these walls between social networks and allow the user to access and update all at the same time.

In close, Vachani's overall argument for Power is that, "Power is not replacing Facebook Connect or Google Connect.  We are focused on how to provide these things to the user with the best experience so the user doesn't have to get bogged down and try to understand these concepts."
