Barry Silbert, CEO
Barry E. Silbert is the Founder and CEO of SecondMarket, the largest secondary market dedicated to creating liquidity for illiquid assets, including auction-rate securities, bankruptcy claims, collateralized debt obligations, limited partnership interests, mortgage-backed securities, private company stock, warrants/restricted stock and whole loans. Prior to founding SecondMarket in 2004, Mr. Silbert was an investment banker at Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin, where he focused on financial restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate financing transactions. Before joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Silbert worked at Bear Stearns, Smith Barney and Rydex Funds.
Mr. Silbert graduated with honors from the Goizueta Business School of Emory University, and holds Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses. He is a frequent speaker at conferences on the topic of trading illiquid assets and has appeared in many leading publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Financial Times, USA Today, BusinessWeek, and Forbes. Mr. Silbert has been featured on CNBC, CNN Money, Bloomberg News, Fox Business News, Business News Network and TheStreet.com.
In 2009, Barry was a category winner of Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a winner of Crain’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was included on Treasury & Risk’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in Finance. Barry was recently recognized by Fortune as “One to Watch” in the publication’s annual 40 Under 40 issue. In addition, SecondMarket was named the top start-up in the entire Northeast by AlwaysOn Media, named one of the Top Fifty Tech Startups You Should Know by BusinessWeek and recognized by Fast Company as one of eight startups “brimming with hope” for the financial industry.
Mr. Silbert is also the chairman of Pluris Valuation Advisors, LLC, a New York-based valuation firm specializing in illiquid assets.
M. Adam Oliveri
Managing Director, Private Company Stock
M. Adam Oliveri is the Managing Director of the Private Company Market at SecondMarket. One of the first three employees hired by SecondMarket, Mr. Oliveri has played a critical role in the growth and development of the company’s online marketplace for trading illiquid assets. Currently, he is responsible for leading the firm's efforts to create an administration and liquidity platform for private company securities. Mr. Oliveri previously was Co-Head of the SecondMarket trading desk, and responsible for managing the company’s public and private company markets. In this role, he also helped in the development of SecondMarket’s online platform for trading auction-rate securities.
Mr. Oliveri graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in Applied Economics and holds his Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses.
Jeremy Smith
Chief Strategy Officer
Jeremy Smith is responsible for helping set the strategic direction of SecondMarket. He is in charge of the company's marketing, business development, new markets, data & analytics, and market intelligence programs. Prior to joining SecondMarket, Mr. Smith was the President of Arthur Lauer, Inc. where he redesigned and implemented the company’s business strategy and marketing program. Prior to his time at Arthur Lauer, Mr. Smith worked at the private equity firm Alliance Holdings where he aided in developing the firm’s business model and marketing program to enhance its deal sourcing and closing capabilities. Before Alliance Holdings, Mr. Smith was an investment banker at Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin where he focused on valuations, mergers & acquisitions, and corporate restructurings.
Mr. Smith graduated with honors from Emory University and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and has appeared in many leading publications, including American Banker, BusinessWeek, DowJones, Los Angeles Times and The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Smith has also been featured on CNBC, Business News Network and Fox Business News.
