"Ooyala" means cradle in Telugu, a Southern Indian language. We like the name because it demonstrates what we are doing -- cradling a new form of innovation.

Ooyala was founded in early 2007 by Sean Knapp, Belsasar Lepe and Bismarck Lepe - all former Google employees. While at Google, they worked on the development and launch of various monetization and content distribution products such as AdSense, AdWords and Google Web Search. After four years of engineering and product development at the biggest Internet company in the world, the three left Google to start Ooyala. Ooyala has raised over 10 million dollars in funding and has in excess of 5000 publishers using its syndication platform - Backlot. Ooyala's goal is to build a successful technology company that focuses on delivering the best video experience to video content providers, advertisers and most importantly consumers.

Bismarck Lepe, Co-founder & CEO

Co-founder Bismarck Lepe serves as Ooyala's Chief Executive Officer driving product vision and business development. Bismarck came from Google where he was a Senior Product Manager guiding the development of content monetization products for AdSense, Social Networks and Online Video. At Google, he deployed display advertising for the $900 million Google-MySpace deal and the YouTube Video Monetization product. He has a B.A. from Stanford University.

Sean Knapp, Co-founder and President of Technology

Co-founder Sean Knapp serves as the President of Technology overseeing all engineering at Ooyala. Sean came from Google where he developed and launched iGoogle. Sean built out the web search team which was responsible for a billion dollar revenue increase. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. from Stanford University.

Belsasar Lepe, Co-founder and Lead Engineer

Co-founder Belsasar Lepe serves as Lead Engineer for Ooyala, directing the Infrastructure and Video Processing teams. Belsasar came from Google, where he worked as a Systems Engineer. He studied Computer Science at Stanford University.
