Business model
Business Model: Nomadesk is an on-demand service (SaaS) that allows business teams to secure, sync and share data with no limits for $30 per month per file server. The team member who pays the $30 per month can invite as many guests as needed to access the files. Customers download an unrestricted two week free-trial at nomadesk.com.
Market Size: With expectations that customers will continue to invest strongly in various forms of online storage services, IDC forecasts the worldwide storage-as-a-service market to pass the $3 billion mark by 2012, with a compound annual growth rate greater than 29% from 2007 to 2012.
- The drivers for adoption of different storage-as-a-service offerings are cost savings and the ability to outsource IT tasks to a third party.
- The inhibitors with adoption of online services are overwhelmingly concerns with the firms' data security and privacy, and on a second order, the perceptions that the cost savings do not justify the change.
- The economic climate in late 2008 and over the next 18-24 months will result in a slight acceleration in consideration and evaluation of online services as overall IT capital and operating budgets flatten or compress.
Competitive advantage
Our main competitors are the likes of Box.net, GoogleApps, Dropbox, Mozy. However, most of their technologies are ineffective for "nomadic" professionals:
- Pure web storage/backup and web applications are ineffective for active, mobile and nomadic businesses because they require an internet connection that is 100% available (e.g., Box.net, GoogleApps, Mozy).
- Pure synchronization tools lack the essential user management and security for business file sharing (e.g., Dropbox).
- VPN (*) + Fileservers are restrictively expensive, because they generally require additional hardware, software and "experts" to install and maintain.
The demand for file sharing, data protection and storage capacity is expected to be very strong as consumers and businesses continue to become more dispersed and the generation of digital data continues to grow. Nomadesk is confident in its ability to meet the growing needs of SMB, SOHO and consumer users for online collaboration, data security and storage solutions, and envisions successful future growth through a strategy that calls for:
- maintaining and leveraging its singular focus on providing the nomadic professional with the easiest and most secure software-as-a-service file management solution on the market
- continuing to invest in enhancements and technologies that give Nomadesk its unique product differentiation in terms of simplicity, security and offline capabilities.
- Continuing to build its indirect sales channel via strategic alliances with business partners who are looking to expand their service offerings to include unlimited (**) storage, offline capabilities, automatic backup, real-time synchronization and security (e.g., telecom service providers).
(*) Virtual Private Network
(**) Subject to Fair Use Policy
