Cary (avatar "CaryJay") began serving as the President and CEO of IMVU in November 2007. Previously, he served as either CEO or Chief Marketing Officer at four other technology startups, including mySimon.com (acquired by CNET) and Autoweb.com (acquired by Autobytel). Cary was VP and General Manager at Intuit, responsible for QuickBooks Payroll, which he grew from $100 million to $200 million over a three-year period (2003-2006). Cary began his career in marketing and brand management at Procter & Gamble, where he was Tide Brand Manager. He then went to Clorox, where he rose up the marketing ranks before becoming General Manager of the Clorox Pet Products Company.
Cary earned an A.B. in International Relations from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
When he isn't working, Cary dreams of diving again with the beautiful Napoleon wrasses at Blue Corner in Palau and with the enormous Manta rays at Goofnuw Channel in Yap.
Brett (avatar "Brett") joined IMVU in August 2005 as VP of Operations. Brett now leads the engineering, technical operations, and user safety teams. Prior to IMVU, Brett served as General Manager for the virtual world at There.com, after serving as its Director of Engineering and later as its VP of Operations. Prior to There.com, Brett co-founded and served as CEO of Asylum Entertainment, a game development company. Brett led Asylum to develop 20 game titles over a 5-year period before selling the company to a software publisher.
Brett started his professional life programming video games for PCs and consoles before he was of legal age to sign a contract.
When he gets out of the office, Brett likes spending time with his kids and working on what seems to be an endless renovation of his 100-year-old house.
Kevin (avatar "bizdev") joined IMVU in April 2007 to build the business development team and was later charged with scaling the finance organization. Prior to IMVU, Kevin led Dell Inc.'s Corporate Strategy Group, reporting to the Office of the CEO. Kevin also led marketing for Dell's $4 billion Consumer & Small Business private label financing portfolio and was a consultant in Dell's Corporate Development Group. Before Dell, Kevin was a management consultant with I/S/O Health Care Group, now a division of Monitor.
Kevin earned a B.A. in History from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from The McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin.
Kevin is an avid reader of American history, a golfer and a fan of the Texas Longhorns.
Matt (avatar "Matt") co-founded IMVU in April 2004 and has served as Senior Art Director from its inception. Matt is responsible for creating IMVU's avatars and virtual environments. In fact, Matt is the original creator of IMVU's wonderfully expressive yet highly customizable avatars. Matt is also a key leader of the Content Creator program, IMVU's proprietary, user-generated content system. Prior to IMVU, Matt served as lead concept artist, then Kinetic Art Director, at There.com. Matt's work at There.com, where he was responsible for everything that moved in its virtual world (avatars, pets, vehicles) laid the foundation for There.com to earn an Emmy award in 2007. Matt began his career as a classically trained illustrator and writer in New York City.
Matt earned a B.F.A. in Illustration from New York's School of Visual Arts.
Matt loves to paint and draw landscape from life and to write the occasional children's story. Matt also has a fondness for chickens.
Marcus (avatar "chattynatty") co-founded IMVU in April 2004, and he has served in a variety of roles including interaction designer and software engineer. Currently, Marcus is the Director of Experience Design, responsible for the consistent production of engaging and easy-to-use user experiences. Prior to IMVU, Marcus served as a consultant at IDEO, the design firm widely recognized as one of the world's most innovative design companies. Earlier in his career, Marcus co-founded an industrial design consultancy, OSA, in Dublin, Ireland, that grew to 30 employees. Marcus also taught Interactive Multimedia at the Dublin Institute of Technology.
Marcus earned a B.A. in Industrial Design from the National College of Art in Dublin and an M.A. in Interaction Design from the Royal College of Art in London.
A proud son of Galway, Ireland, Marcus enjoys riding his bike in the California countryside and spending time with his family.
