Launched in 1999, CafePress.com has empowered individuals, organizations and businesses to create, buy and sell customized merchandise online using the company's unique print-on-demand and e-commerce services. Today, CafePress.com is a growing network of over 6.5 million members who have unleashed their creativity to transform their artwork and ideas into unique gifts and new revenue streams.
Our members have created over 150 million unique products on customizable merchandise ranging from apparel, home and office accessories to music and data CDs and books to prints, posters and cards.
Powering independently-run shops as well as syndicated and corporate stores, we manage every aspect of doing business online, including storefront development, site hosting, order management, fulfillment, secure payment processing, and quality customer service - enabling anyone to open a free shop with no upfront costs and no inventory to manage. CafePress.com is a privately owned, profitable company based in Foster City, California.
Fred Durham (Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer):
Fred DurhamFred Durham is the Chief Executive Officer of CafePress.com, a company he co-founded shortly after graduating from Northwestern University. Durham is responsible for setting the strategy and overseeing execution of the businesses and operations for CafePress.com.
Under Durham's leadership, CafePress.com experienced dramatic growth within the first six years. The company grew from two employees working out of a garage to approximately 200 employees in two locations - corporate headquarters in Foster City, California and a state-of-the-art production facility in Louisville, Kentucky. Durham also skillfully guided CafePress.com through the burst of the dot-com bubble, reaching profitability within 12 months; this at a time when most start-ups were failing. After reaching profitability, CafePress.com continued to double its profits year over year.
Prior to founding CafePress.com, Durham launched several consumer and business technology companies along with business partner, Maheesh Jain. Together, Durham and Jain focused on developing software applications targeted to the diverse needs of small businesses and the larger broadcast and commercial printing industries.
Durham and Jain set out to redefine the way business is done by using the power of the Internet to create a new class of entrepreneurs. In 1999, taking the best elements from each of their previous business ventures, Durham and Jain launched CafePress.com, the online marketplace for self-expression.
Durham earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Northwestern University.
Maheesh Jain (Co-Founder, Vice President of Business Development):
Maheesh JainAs Vice President of Business Development, Maheesh Jain directs the company's corporate and online retail strategies and partnership programs. Previously, Jain led the company's sales and marketing organization and was responsible for overall performance and execution.
Since 1999, under Jain's direction, CafePress.com grew its network from zero to nearly 2 million members. During that time, nearly 1 million online shops were created and over 35 major accounts were signed, including United Media, Electronic Arts and MP3.com. In addition, the product line expanded from four to over 70 products. At a time when most Internet companies were failing, Jain cemented a highly profitable business model that led CafePress.com to profitability in 12 short months.
Prior to founding CafePress.com, Jain, a self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur, launched several consumer and business technology companies along with business partner, Fred Durham. Jill K. Ambrose (Chief Marketing Officer):
Jill AmbroseAs Chief Marketing Officer for CafePress.com, Jill K. Ambrose leads the Sales, Marketing, Merchandising and Customer Experience efforts for the company. She brings over 20 years of comprehensive marketing expertise and experience driving results through integrated online and offline advertising, branding and merchandising. Her industry expertise includes apparel, home furnishings, entertainment, licensing, sports, hospitality and new media.
Enthused by the unique composition of the business model, Ambrose saw CafePress as the perfect fit for her expertise, stating "CafePress is innovating on several dimensions as it captures the dynamic world of online retail, provides access to entrepreneurs and corporations worldwide, extends the power of Community and user-created content, and provides leadership in print-on-demand technology across a broad array or products." adding, "Many companies can only dream of pursuing one of these areas."
Most recently Ambrose was Vice President of Marketing and eCommerce at GiftCertificates.com and a key member of the executive team that led the company to profitability. Prior to GiftCertificates.com she served as VP, Consumer Products division for Corbis, a digital media company that pioneered print-on-demand technology in the print and poster category.
Capitalizing on an open market in licensed sports apparel for women, Ambrose founded AVID Enterprises, Inc, which earned top vendor performance awards at major U. S. retailers. She also held an eight-year career at Disney in various product management, creative and branding leadership positions. Ambrose started her career in traditional retail working for both brick and mortar and catalog retailers.
Ambrose holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Retailing and Marketing from the University of Illinois.
Ambrose recently relocated to the Bay Area with her husband John and their dog Kiki. She confides that she passionately explores and creates adventures in "sensory aesthetics" enjoying anything that stirs sight, sound, smell, taste, touch or emotion.
Monica Johnson (Chief Financial Officer):
Monica JohnsonMonica Johnson is the Chief Financial Officer of CafePress.com overseeing the Company's financial direction and business information systems. On deciding to join CafePress, she says, "I recognized the significance of the CafePress business model and I'm enthusiastic about helping the Company realize its potential. The loyalty and scope of the CafePress community is amazing."
It's not the first time Johnson has been in the customized products business. As a grad student she owned a business that sold school merchandise, saying her biggest sellers were t-shirts and mugs. Now her business experiences have brought her full circle on a much larger scale. Prior to joining CafePress, Johnson was CFO for ARC International, a publicly traded IP company. Before that, she served as VP of Finance for Webvan, an online retail and delivery service. Johnson also held various finance positions for Hewlett Packard over the course of nine years.
Johnson holds an MBA from Cornell University, NY and a BA in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
In her free time, Johnson enjoys spending time with her family, and coaching girls' softball and basketball teams.
Jill Kulick (Vice President of Human Resources):
Jill KulickAs VP of Human Resources, Jill Kulick has supported CafePress' dramatic growth since 2004. She brings over 20 years experience in retail, financial services, software, and e-commerce/internet businesses. At CafePress, Jill oversees organization development, talent acquisition, training and development, benefits and compensation, and employee relations.
Prior to CafePress.com, Jill served as Vice President, HR at iMotors.com, C*ATS Software (acquired by Mysis), BankAmerica and Supercuts. She was also an HR Consultant for eBay Motors Financing Center.
Jill is a self-proclaimed CafePress T-shirt junkie; on any given day you will see her in a t-shirt purchased from the CafePress.com shop.
Jill has a Master's degree in Communication from George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
Mehdi Maghsoodnia (Vice President of Products and Site Operations):
Mehdi MaghsoodniaAs Vice President of Products and Site Operations, Maghsoodnia is charged with product development, product management and merchandising. He brings over 20 years of experience in executive management roles at both public and private companies and has managed high technology companies through both growing and declining market conditions.
Most recently, Maghsoodnia was an executive in residence at Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV) where he focused on early stage startups in consumer services and wireless markets.
Before that, Maghsoodnia was Senior Vice President of Products and Services at Intellisync where he managed wireless, consumer and enterprise product lines across the US, EMEA and Asian markets, overseeing a product team of 350 people with offices in the U.S. and Eastern Europe. He supported Intellisync products across 15 languages and geographies.
Maghsoodnia still serves as a member of the board of directors at Face Time Communications, a company he co-founded and grew as COO. While there, Maghsoodnia architected the first secure real time proxy technology for peer-to-peer and IM traffic used by major financial institutions like Citigroup and Fidelity.
Prior to FaceTime, Maghsoodnia co-founded Presidio System in the clinical market, which was acquired by a subsidiary of BBN and before that, he was at Metaphor Systems, since acquired by IBM. Mehdi started his career at Bellcore Communications, a spin-off from AT&T labs.
Maghsoodnia is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and has authored many publications on messaging, security and viral communication networks. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from University of California, Berkeley, and has done graduate level studies in computer science at Stanford University.
In his spare time, Maghsoodnia enjoys family activities with his wife and two kids or pursuing his favorite interests including swimming, walking, reading, blogging and competing in his soccer league.
Bob Marino (Vice President of Operations):
Bob MarinoAs Vice President of Operations, Bob Marino oversees production of the CafePress West Coast and Midwest production facilities, and is also responsible for the CafePress supply chain and engineering. Marino expertise ensures that these three areas work as one cohesive force while he contributes leadership and strategic vision for continual growth.
Prior to joining CafePress, Marino served as President and CEO of Chicago-based Cuisine Innovations, a top 25 manufacturer of snacks, appetizers and side dishes. Before that, Marino was VP and General Manager of Tyson's Culinary Foods, and Mexican Original and Mallards Food products Divisions. Earlier in his career, he was VP of Operations and Technology at Ramsey SIAS. Marino was also instrumental in the successful launches of divisional start-ups for Fortune 500s. While at his previous companies, Marino developed several patents both privately and through the organizations he served.
The culmination of experience Marino brings from his previous positions is an exciting mix for CafePress. It includes sourcing components and products globally, engineering solutions for never-done before processes, fast-paced logistic solutions for products with a short shelf life, and automated and manual processes. He's also developed an intense commitment to quality.
As an innovator, Marino was attracted to CafePress because of the unique business model. He says, "The Marketplace decides the level of popularity and revenue for each idea. It's a TRUE union of freedom of expression and capitalism without the usual roadblocks confronting entrepreneurs."
He goes on to say, "Most companies thrive on like volume (the same product made millions of times). CafePress thrives on uniqueness. Every order is different and new."
Marino holds a BS degree from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from Rider University.
Marino enjoys spending his free time with his children and cheering them on at soccer games. He also enjoys learning about nature and biology.

Abdul Popal (Vice President of Business Affairs):
Abdul PopalAs the VP of Business Affairs for CafePress.com, Abdul Popal oversees all content and Intellectual Property issues and is responsible for developing strategic partnerships both domestically and internationally. This entails all contract negotiations, deal structuring and legalities, through complete execution. Popal assumed this post after serving as VP of Operations shortly after joining CafePress in 2000. He played a foundational role in developing the Company's early stage operations and infrastructure including human resources, accounting, finance, legal and customer service.
Prior to joining CafePress, Popal held various senior management positions in Finance and Operations.
Abdul holds a Bachelor and Master Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Strategic Management and Marketing.
In his spare time, Popal is active in community development, and enjoys spending time with his family. Popal is an avid auto enthusiast and likes to build and drive race cars. His current project is turning a classic Mini Cooper into a speed freak with a hybrid engine. He enthusiastically adds, "It should be faaaasssst!"
