Berkeley Design Automation is the electronic design automation (EDA) industry leader in next-generation analog, RF, and mixed-signal integrated circuit (IC) verification. The company’s Precision Circuit AnalysisTM technology provides true SPICE accuracy 5X to 10X faster than any other tool. BDA delivers its customers a quantifiable competitive edge in getting high-quality circuits to market weeks faster than is otherwise possible.

Analog/RF circuitry is both the biggest differentiator and the most difficult design challenge in today’s ICs. Running at GHz frequencies and implemented in nanometer-scale CMOS silicon processes, these circuits introduce a new class of verification problems that SPICE, RF, and digital fastSPICE simulators simply cannot adequately address.

Berkeley Design Automation Analog FastSPICETM and RF FastSPICETM combine innovative applied mathematics with advanced numerical optimization techniques. The company developed the underlying Precision Circuit Analysis technology from the bottom up, never compromising accuracy, and verifying it against silicon every step of the way. Unparalleled accuracy and performance make Analog FastSPICE and RF FastSPICE ideal for the most difficult verification challenges such as multi-day or multi-week long simulations or circuits that cannot otherwise converge.

Design teams from >50 companies have validated Precision Circuit Analysis technology’s accuracy, performance, and capacity on hundreds of production circuits. Many of these teams now use Berkeley Design Automation tools to solve big analog/RF verification problems that were previously impractical or impossible.

Founded in 2003 and located in Silicon Valley, Berkeley Design Automation is funded by Woodside Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, Matsushita Electric Industrial, and NTT Corporation. The company is the recipient of the 2006 Red Herring 100 North America Award, making it the first EDA company to earn such a distinction in 5 years.

Management Bio

Ravi Subramanian (CEO/President):
Ravi has been involved with the communications IC industry for 15 years, spanning R&D, marketing, and entrepreneurial roles. He began his career as the Company Scientist at TCSI in Berkeley, where he developed DSP software for digital mobile phones. While at AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1991-1995, he was a key member of the team that developed the world's first GSM merchant chipset, for which he won the AT&T Leadership Award. From 1995-1998, at Synopsys, Ravi held product marketing and business-line responsibilities. In 1998, he co-founded Morphics Technology, a fabless semiconductor company developing multi-protocol CDMA wireless communications ICs. While he was CEO of Morphics from 2002-2003, the company was acquired by Infineon Technologies, the world’s second largest supplier of semiconductors for wireless communications. Ravi received his BSEE (honors) from the California Institute of Technology (1987). He earned his Ph.D. in EECS from the University of California at Berkeley (1991), where he was a recipient of the prestigious UC Regent's Fellowship. He was named to RutbergCo’s Wireless Influencers 2006 list.
