The Psychiatry Innovation Lab is an incubator at the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the largest psychiatric organization in the world, that aims to catalyze the formation of innovative ventures to transform mental health care. We nurture early-stage ideas and ventures by investing in them with mentorship, education, funding, and collaboration opportunities within our community of mental health innovators. The Lab centers around a live event at the Annual Meeting of the APA. This event brings together leaders in psychiatry with experts in business, technology, medicine, and government.

How to Participate

Your idea could be selected to pitch to today’s top leaders in mental health! Submit your innovative concepts to improve mental health care delivery through entrepreneurship, policy, systems redesign, education, collaboration, technology, and more. Only pitches with complete submissions will be considered.

How it Works

The Psychiatry Innovation Lab has four parts

Pitch an Idea
The live event will begin with seven Finalists giving initial pitches about their innovative idea for improving mental health care delivery and how psychiatrists are diagnosing, treating, or managing patients.
Learn from Experts
An expert panel of judges will give feedback and offer insight into each idea.
Build a Team + Design a Venture
At its core, the Lab is an interactive exercise in experiential learning. The audience (consisting of APA members and Innovation Leaders) will join the Finalist of their choice to create teams that work together and incorporate judges’ feedback to improve the initial idea and develop a solution. Judges will join the teams as mentors, helping the teams collaborate to design an effective and sustainable venture.
Win Prizes
The Lab will culminate with networking opportunities and the awarding of prizes including a cash Grand Prize, Audience Choice, Mentoring, and Human Rights prizes.
