I'd have to say the unforeseeable nature of day to day events. Around every corner are frustrating lows when you hit a snag as well as huge highs when you land even a minor victory. It definitely is a roller coaster ride, but one I'm enjoying immensely.
From what I've heard of startups that don't make it, it seems like a lot of them over commit financially too soon. While having office space is nice, the garage works just as well until you have a semblance of a stable income.
Network - it is all about the contacts. Often times someone that you know peripherally will end up being really important to your success.
Have a plan - if you can't convince yourself, you aren't going to convince anyone else.
Determination can overcome just about any hurdle.
