I am a(n):

Attorney, Beta Tester, Blogger, Entrepreneur

If you're an entrepreneur or corporate innovator, why?

Short Attention Span, Too Many Ideas, Too Humble (maybe not ...)

My favorite startups:

Google, Total Attorneys, Law Pivot, Groupon, I.Paper, Merchant Circle, EveryBlock

What's most frustrating and rewarding about entrepreneurship/innovation?

Most Frustrating: getting people to share your vision
Most Rewarding: team building, convincing people

What's the No. 1 mistake entrepreneurs/innovators make?

Unrealistic about what they expect; often mistake their vision for facts. Good ideas are great but execution makes them real. That requires follow through and attention to detail. Recipe remains: 2% inspiration; 98% perspiration.

What are the top three lessons you've learned as an entrepreneur?

(1) Low overhead should be your religion.
(2) Be confident but realistic about the future
(3) Prepare to try; fail; learn; try again; repeat

Full bio

I am a Bankruptcy Attorney and Commercial Litigator in the Chicago. I am also a lifetime entrepreneur. In addition to my law practice I've developed websites, a title insurance company, a network of law-related blogs, and a debt-negotiation firm. I consult with start-ups in the legal technology space and other areas of innovation. I went to college at the University of Chicago and University of Michigan, got my MBA from U of M's Ross Graduate School of Business, and obtained my JD from DePaul University College of Law.  I am the president of M. Hedayat & Associates, P.C. and Aegis Title Services, Inc., was the entrepreneur behind elawcentral, the first lawyer-focused web-portal, and co-developed lawfiles, a document sharing and collaboration site. I have held Series 7 and 63 securities licenses as well as a business broker's license. In my free time … well, I don't have much free time. But I try to keep up with my 11-year old son on Call of Duty: Black Ops. He always wins.
