Since those early days, when I first recognized its power, I have been promoting and using lighting as a key design tool for developing spaces. Frequently teach semester- long lighting courses, 1-day lighting design studios, as well as regularly speak on lighting. Currently serve as the IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) - San Francisco chapter Chair of Education. I have been active on both the IES Sustainability Committee and the IES Committee on Lighting for the Aging and Partially-Sighted, the subject of my Masters thesis. Areas of special interest: Effective integration of lighting into an architectural design, sustainability in lighting, promotion of green building principles, lighting in educational facilities and offices, and lighting for the aging and partially-sighted.
