JAY "RANDY" GORDON - BIO  ( www.jayrandygordon.com )

Jay “Randy” Gordon is what those in the marketing, entertainment, and sports business call “a-Doer.” For 20 years, Randy has read and authored marketing documents, attended many conferences, led meetings, and conversed with many people in person and over-the-phone to record business buzzwords and catchphrases during his B-school days at UCLA Anderson and UNC-Chapel Hill and while working at some of America’s top companies, including The Coca-Cola Company, Sony Computer Entertainment America, Universal McCann (formerly McCann-Erickson), Bates Worldwide, and Ubisoft Entertainment. With his 2006 book, BusiBUZZ: Business Buzzwords for Survivin’ and Thrivin’ in the Big City, Randy brings to the table keen insights from games industry veterans like Peter Moore (President, EA Sports) and provides a unique and humorous look at the world of business jargon, catchphrases in the workplace, and general mucky-muck speak. He resides in Sausalito in Marin County, CA (just North of San Francisco), and he is originally from Birmingham, AL.

In a working capacity, Randy brings proven process and a wealth of creativity and contacts (from the sports world, entertainment, and interactive entertainment industries). Randy operates under a unique style of sales-driving thoughts, big ideas with a promotional / PR angle, a keen sense of how to initiate and leverage relationships with other marketers, and a refreshing leadership role that gets everyone involved and fosters team play, and he empowers those with whom he works to get things done. Randy is a big believer in work product, credibility, tactful persistence, initiative, luck, and timing.

His work experience in marketing covers the gamut. In May of 2000, Randy Gordon joined the U.S Headquarters (San Francisco office) of Ubisoft Entertainment as Director of Brand Development and Promotions. His primary role was to “plus” marketing and promotional efforts and to fortify branding initiatives. Prior to his work at Ubisoft, Randy served as Director of Marketing for InterAct (at one time, the world’s leading manufacturer and seller of videogame peripherals / accessories and the GameShark product line). Having also formulated “in-game branding” and cross-promotional programs at Sony Computer Entertainment America (as Manager of Consumer Promotions), Randy built a solid reputation of productivity within the videogaming space after starting in April of 1997. Randy also worked under Eva Woo (and Bernard Stolar) as Director of Marketing for Adscape Media (which was acquired by Google in 2007).

Randy received his M.B.A. (1993) from U.C.L.A. Anderson (Graduate Business School) and his B.S. in Business from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1989). A Board Member (June 2001-2002) for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences which originated today’s DICE Summit, Randy became an Academy member in 1998.
