Veda will use its automation technology to analyze, verify, and standardize Humana’s data

Accurate provider directories, including up to date phone numbers, addresses and panel status of in-network practitioners, is essential to helping patients make informed choices about their healthcare and who to see. Yet, this has been an ongoing challenge: a report from CMS in 2017 found that more than half of provider directory locations listed had at least one inaccuracy, such as an inaccurate address or phone number, or that the provider was not accepting new patients when the directory indicated they were.

For Humana, confirming provider data has meant making millions of calls, which is a major administrative burden on its staff. To make it easier to keep information up to date the company announced a strategic partnership with Veda, a health technology company that helpis healthcare companies solve complex provider data challenges.

Together, the two companies will improve the accuracy of Humana's provider information, ensuring that seniors have real-time details about in-network providers. To do this, Veda will use its automation technology to analyze, verify, and standardize Humana’s data to ensure it's accurate and comprehensive, along with real-time scoring of data quality.

In addition to working with Veda, Humana says it will also continue to apply best practices in ensuring that provider directories are accurate and up-to-date, noting that it has also supported efforts to create a National Directory of Healthcare Providers and Services, and has provided feedback to CMS about how such a national effort can increase patient satisfaction.

“We want to be a partner with CMS and policymakers in improving the accuracy of provider directories. This collaboration with Veda will enhance not only the experience for our members, but also our provider community,” Robbie Tindall, Vice President, Provider Process Network Operations at Humana, said in a statement.

“We’re committed to delivering an exceptional experience for both, ultimately improving health outcomes and enhancing the overall well-being of our members.”
