Mighty Buildings is partnering with Fortera to make concrete out of CO2

Fortera's new concrete process will reduce CO2 waste for Mighty Buildings' 3D-printed housing

Mighty Buildings, a company focused on using 3D printing to create homes and reduce waste, announced this week that it is partnering with Fortera to use a new type of concrete that reduces CO2 waste.

Fortera is a Silicon Valley-based materials technology company founded in 2019. The process they are using creates a "cementitious material that converts carbon dioxide into cement, reducing CO₂emissions by more than 60%."

While Mighty Buildings has a focus on reducing its carbon footprint as much as possible through on-site 3D printing and other methods, concrete remained one of the company's biggest issues. The company plans to be carbon neutral by 2028, and this partnership should help those plans come to fruition.

'We're constantly searching for new materials that will help us reach our goals, so we're thrilled to work with Fortera and this new carbon dioxide based cement." said Sam Ruben, Chief Sustainability Officer and Co-Founder of Mighty Buildings.

It is also noted that this new partnership is a result of a $22 million funding round intended to accelerate its carbon neutrality roadmap, as mentioned above.
