We've had the chance to talk with Paul Tyma, LendingTree's new Chief Technology Officer, to find out more about his background, his new role, and what plans he has going forward. Check out the interview below!

Hey Paul, congrats on the position at LendingTree! Care to give us a little background on yourself?

I got my Ph.D. in Computer Engineer with a mind to enter Academia but ended up in Silicon Valley instead. I spent 15 years there in various startups and large companies working in different capacities. I'm an entrepreneur at heart and continually work with and invest in startups today.

What companies have you worked for in the past?

I've spent several years at Google and LinkedIn in different capacities of engineering and engineering management. I've also started 5 of my own startups (with some success and some not) as either CEO or CTO.

You're also a bit of a serial entrepreneur, correct?

I wouldn't say that is or was the plan, but looking back at where I've been, it's clear that was the case. More simply, I think I'm attracted to great companies and great opportunities.

What drew you to LendingTree? What did you like about the company going in?

The introduction was facilitated by our COO who is someone I've worked with before and had a great deal of respect for. Needless to say LendingTree was a name I was familiar with and as I learned more about the company, it's values and mission, I was intrigued about it's potential. At it's core, it's a technology company and one where I felt I could have a real impact. Upon meeting the team and understanding where they'd been and where they were going, the pieces kept falling into place. I'm excited and thankful for the opportunity.

As CTO, what will be some of the duties that come along with the title?

I manage all aspects of engineering which includes the day-to-day of keeping our site running smoothly up to setting the technology vision for the company. Our CEO is committed to LendingTree continuing to be known as a world-class engineering organization. That's a big responsibility but it's the way I think too. I've got a fantastic team and I'm encouraging us to push the envelope across the technology organization.

What are your plans with LendingTree going forward?

My plan is add value where I can throughout engineering. The team has built some impressive technology and I'm encouraging us to think outside the box a bit and push the envelope. I'm a firm believer that technological capability fuels product innovation. That's part of our goal, to continue to build a technology platform that serves our customers and fosters innovation for our company.

Thanks for taking the time to answer a couple of our questions, anything you'd like to close with?

I'll just add I'm thrilled to be here and to be working with such an incredible team. I've been impressed at every turn about what LendingTree has already accomplished and I'm extremely excited for the future!

We'd like to thank Paul for taking the time to answer some of our questions, find out more about LendingTree here.
