Dr. Rainer Gruessner

Dr. Rainer Gruessner is a reputed transplant surgeon who has led the Department of Surgery at the University of Arizona from 2007 to 2014. He has also served as the Chief of the Division of Transplantation and Surgical Director of the Hepatopancreaticobiliary program.

Gruessner was responsible for the rebuilding of the University of Arizona’s Department of Surgery, adding three new divisions, many new clinical programs, and an influx of over 70 new faculty members, including six nationally known division chiefs who made important contributions to the department’s resurgent reputation.
