Turbulenz rasied $5M, TechShop $1.7M; 23andMe $22M; Gazillion Entertainment $60M; Nirvanix $45M

Turbulenz, a game developer based in Guildford, England,  raised $5 million. It will make a game publishing platform with the money.  The platform is scheduled for a 2011 launch, and will run on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.

23andMe, a Personal genetics company,  raised $22 million in a C Series of funding. While there was no solid leader  Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, New Enterprise Associates and Google Ventures all participated in the round.

TechShop, which sells work time, tools and equipment to inventors, raised $1.7 million. The company is based in Menlo Park, Calif., the company offers tools like 3D printers, laser cutters and woodworking tools. Membership costs  roughly $100 per month.

Gazillion Entertainment, the makers of online MMORPG's, raised $60 million. The funds come from Temasek Holdings. Gazillion currently holds a license to make a Marvel themed MMORPG.

AVG Technologies acquired  DroidSecurity for $4.1 million. DroidSecurity makes tools designed  to protect devices running on Google’s Android OS from viruses.

Talend, a provider of global, open source data management tools, has raised $34 million.  The round of funding was led by Silver Lake Sumeru. Other investors include  Balderton Capital and IdInvest Partners.

Twilio, a company San Francisco-based company, which makes a cloud communications platform, announced it has raised $12 million. This was the Series B round of funding. The round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners.

Nirvanix, an enterprise cloud storage provider, raised $45 million. The funders  include: Intel Capital, Mission Ventures, Valhalla Partners, and Windward Venturs.

PhotoRocket, a photo sharing startup, based in Seattle, raised $1.3 million. The round brings the total funds raised for Photo Rocket to just over $1.7 million.

The European Union  is proposing a law which would require web site to delete individuals’ personal information from their records. This privacy law will, if passed, present new challenges for companies servicing users in these nations.

Google’s Android as well as Apple’s iOS are still the top two makers of smart phones.  They held a majority share of the 80.5 million smartphones were sold in the third quarter, according to  Gartner. These numbers represent a 96% increase, when compared to the same quarter of last year.

Yahoo wants to buy Groupon, again. While no formal offer has been made, sources speculate that the offer could be a high as  $4 billion.
