Gamersband raised $500,000; Sharethrough $5 million; Overdrive an undisclosed amount

Facebooks apps could be security leaks, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. After an incident where RapLeaf transmitted user data, concerns have been raised about the storage and transmission of  users data to third-party groups. Facebook cut off LOLapps, creator of games Critter Island, Garden Life, Diva Life, Band of Heroes, Supermodel: The Game, and Yakuza Lords. The game company had its games suspended over the weekend for potentially leaking user data. Facebook has already confirmed the issue on its developers blog, though it claims the vulnerabilities are far less severe than reported.

Yahoo to announce a connect service. While the service has not been formally announced, it is likely to be similar to Facebook Connect. The service will also allow Yahoo users to access content from media publishers and other web services more easily and more quickly.

Sharethrough raised $5 million in its first round of funding. The company is a San Francisco video ad startup which focuses on creating viral ads in an attempt to get users to share content.

Netflix announced that members with an $8.99 plan, a Wii, and an Internet connection can watch movies and TV shows by downloading from the Wii Shop Channel. The new application will remove the need for mail and disks.

Gamersband raised $500,000 in a Series A funding. The round was led by Petit Poucet. Gamersband is a face-to-face gaming service,which helps local players hook up with each other online. The startup is based in France.

OverDrive has raised capital from PE firm Insight Venture Partners. The amount was not disclosed. OverDrive is a platform for the distribution of digital content such as ebooks, audiobooks, music and video.
