South Carolina company provides database for AEC community to search for green building products

GreenwizardGreenwizard, a new Web-based platform for architects, engineers, and contractors to pursue green building, has just raised a $1.5 million Series A led by Zygote Ventures. Last year, the San Rafael, CA-venture firm led an angel investment round for Greenwizard.

The Charleston, SC-based startup provides a free Web-based interactive marketplace where architects and other personnel involved in green architecture can search for building products. Users can navigate the database by name, CSI section, region, or product type. Additionally, one can create a profile for separate projects and maintain a real-time estimate for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points attempted.

"Given today’s economy, an investment of this size for a start-up like ours is an enormous vote of confidence," said GreenWizard CEO Adam Bernholz. "With our great relations with USGBC, and our growing strategic partnerships with green-certification groups like SCS, GreenFormat, and SMaRT/MTS, it’s clear that every aspect of the AEC [Architecture, Engineering, and Construction] community is embracing our workflow approach to green building product research, specification, and documentation."

Greenwizard announced a few days ago that it had partnered with Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) to include information about SCS-certified, high-performing green products in the company's product database.

The new funds will simply go to fleshing out that database and marketing it to the green tech community.
