With Talking Points Memo writer leading the charge, news blog could add new dimension to Yahoo news

Yahoo! NEWSLike Google and many other search engines, Yahoo has been in the news aggregating business for sometime now. But, until now, it has never been the creator of its own news content.

Following in the steps of massive media company AOL, Yahoo will be launching a new news blog with a full-time team of writers and editors to supplement its current news site.

The news was revealed yesterday by Andrew Golis, Deputy Publisher of Talking Points Memo (TPM), one of the fastest-rising political news blogs in the country.

"I’ve accepted an amazing offer from Yahoo to build, staff and run a new news blog," announced Golis on his blog. "It will be a combination of curation and original reporting, with gregarious linking and sharp, smart writing. In other words, for the folks who read this site for meta journalism news, I’m going to be building a team to bring the most popular news site in the United States into the news link economy."

In March 2009, Time Magazine editors placed TPM at number one on their list of the 25 best blogs of the year, writing, "Talking Points has become the prototype of what a successful Web-based news organization is likely to be in the future."

Already named the top news site on the Web by Nielsen last month--over CNN, MSNBC, AOL, and the New York Times--Yahoo likely hopes that Golis can bring some of TPM's successful and praised news writing to the media site as another enhancement to Yahoo's already successful news site.

The new blog's name is as yet unnamed, as are the new writers to work under Golis' leadership.
