Company description

SafeHear is a project to help potential victims of abuse and violence by using an audio detection technology. We received the “Audience Choice Award” at the Psychiatry Innovation Lab in 2017. Since then, we have worked with a new engineer team member to put our idea into action.

SafeHear app runs silently on the background without being visible. During crisis, the victim says a specific keyword and it is accurately detected by audio technology of the app. The keyword can be changed into any other word by the victim later on. The app sends an automatic email or text message to pre-registered safety contacts, who can be family members or trusted friends of the victim. Then, the crisis is intervened.

SafeHear can also help any patient potentially in threat of violence, and will be particularly useful for domestic violence and child/elder abuse victims who cannot themselves take action. It can also be used in psychiatry clinical settings in addition to a “panic button” when working with a potentially aggressive patient.

On the financial side, we plan to receive funding from domestic violence organizations and shelters, and government organizations. We also plan to get support from crowd funding sources such as Indiegogo and gofundme. We will also apply for programs such as Knight Foundation by Microsoft.

This project was born in 2017 as an idea. Since then, we have worked on developing the most reliable audio detection technology partnering with NYU music technology department.
