Company description

Generation Mental Health (GenMH) strives to bolster the global mental health workforce by providing foundational training and practical experience for the next generation of leaders in mental health research and practice. By training a new cohort of people from low-resource settings to implement mental health solutions,  we will fill the glaring gaps in global mental health implementation where there is the most need.

Business model

Through the GenMH Fellowship we aim to fill the gap for implementation of contextually relevant interventions. The GenMH Fellowship matches early-career individuals from low-resource settings with frontline mental health organizations. Our model includes a strategic matching process, which ensures that the needs of the fellow and the host are taken into account to create a mutually beneficial placement experience. Our Fellowship includes intensive training in modules such as program management and research methodologies so our Fellows leave the program ready to implement change in their home country contexts.

Competitive advantage

To develop our model, we collected data from a sample of 92 experts and early career individuals in mental health. A large majority of respondents said that there was “a lot” or “a great deal” of need for funded international placements in mental health. Where other opportunities for Fellowships are available at universities in high-income countries, we know that we are the only organization providing this focused mental health training opportunity in an accessible way.
