An improved walker for the elderly.

My grandmother had Parkinson's disease, tried 3 different versions of walkers, and disliked all of them.  Her aversion to walkers lead to a fall, and a subsequent medical decline.  I was inspired by this personal experience to create a better walker.

She didn’t use these walkers because she disliked how unwieldy they were, the way they looked, and the way they made her feel.  I started to interview hundreds of walker users, and found that newly elderly people, especially the ageing baby boomers, aren't ready to acknowledge their infirmaries.  This group isn't like the generation before them.  Their values are more progressive. They’re into organic products. They’re worldlier. They adapt to change more readily.

And they generally dislike their walkers.  Everyone I talked to was a wealth of information, eager to tell me how to make these outdated devices better.  The evidence pointed to the importance of design & allowing the elderly person themselves control over using their walker.

Products geared towards this group currently tries to solve problems by pointing at the problems.

So I decided to design a product that most people didn’t want to admit they need.

I can't wait to tell you more about this product, the current market, the medical context and need for such a product, and plan for its implementation.

Thank you so much for your time thus far.
