Founders Fund led investment in Affirm; Nexthink raised $40M; NodeSource secured $10M Series A
- CareDox, provider of a cloud platform for tracking and managing student health, closed $2.8 million in seed funding led by TEXO Ventures and Prolog Ventures in addition to a $1.5 million venture debt agreement with Western Technology Investment. The new $4.3 million in funding brings total capital raised for the company to $6.9 million. CareDox will use its new funding to expand hiring for sales and engineering positions at its New York City headquarters.
- Lucid VR raised $2.1 million and it has partnered with Taiwanese manufacturer Wistron to make its LucidCam 180-degree virtual reality camera. The investment came from Wistron, S2 Capital, Lab360, TEEC Angel Fund, 17 Miles Technology, and other angel investors. The funding coupled with the Wistron manufacturing agreement provides the means for Lucid VR to bring its affordable VR camera to mass production.
- CloudEndure, a NYC-based provider of live-migration and disaster recovery solutions, raised an additional $6 million in Series B funding. This brought the amount raised in the Series B round to $13 million and total funding raised by the company to date to $18.2 million. The new investors remained undisclosed. The Series B round was co-led by Infosys and previous investor Magma Venture Partners.
- Israeli GSM startup Meucci raked in a whopping $6 million seed round to make their mark on the world of voice communication. So far, the app has already picked up some significant backers, with names like Moshe Hogeg’s Singulariteam, Chinese investor Dragon Ventures and Xu Li. Singulariteam is also backed by big Chinese players like Tencent and Renren, plus Alon Carmel who has co-founded successful dating services like JDate.
- NodeSource, an Enterprise Node Company(TM) offering enterprise-grade solutions for Node.js development and operations, secured a $10 million Series A funding round led by RRE Ventures, with participation from early investors Crosslink Capital and Resolute.vc. The additional financing will allow NodeSource to accelerate its development of products and services for Fortune 500 companies and other leading global corporations who are rapidly adopting Node.js.
- Nexthink, a provider of End-user IT Analytics, raised $40 million in new investment, led by Highland Europe, a leading global venture capital firm. This is the largest round of funding to date for Nexthink and includes participation from the Bertarelli family’s Waypoint Capital and existing investors Auriga Partners and Galeo Ventures.
- Max Levchin’s online lending startup Affirm Inc. raised $100 million in a funding round led by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund as the two PayPal co-founders team up again to take on the banking industry. The San Francisco startup said it plans to introduce a range of other services, such as loyalty rewards and financial management tools. Affirm hopes to encourage people to use its services daily.

- Japanese developer Gree makes about billion dollars a year in revenue for mobile games. But the company is signaling a shift today as it is creating a $12 million fund to invest in virtual reality games and applications. Teppei Tsutsui, managing director at Gree VR Capital in San Francisco, said in an interview with GamesBeat that the company will invest in early-stage VR companies that make either games or non-game applications.
