Yuneec bagged $60M; MediBeacon landed $22.4M; Remerge closed $3M

  • Mobile App Retargeting startup Remerge today announced a $3 million Series A round led by Point Nine Capital, along with Valor, VC Fonds Technologie Berlin, German Startups Group, West Tech Ventures and Rheingau Ventures. The company had previously raised a $1 million seed round in June of last year, bringing its total funding to $4 million.
  • Mumbai-based startup Belita Retail Pvt Ltd, which runs an on-demand home beauty services marketplace Belita has raised $375,000 (Rs 2.5 crore) in angel funding through LetsVenture and Lead Angels. The round was led by early stage VC firm India Quotient and Supreet Singh, CEO - Altor Executive Search, with few other investors from LetsVenture and Lead Angels participating in the fundraise. The money will be used for scaling up the team, enhancing technology, strengthening operations and expanding to new cities. 

  • Farmnote is based in Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido and has been developing a cloud-based solution for dairy farmers. The company has fundraised 210 million yen (about $1.7 million) from Tokyo-based trading company Kanematsu (TSE:8020), Kanematsu Agritech, Japanese mobile gaming company Gree (TSE:3632), Colopl (TSE:3668) co-founder and executive vice president Kotaro Chiba, Six Apart CTO Daiji Hirata as well as an undisclosed Japanese company. Farmnote will use the funds to strengthen the development of wearable devices and peripherals for monitoring livestock, specifically collecting daily performance data on dairy cows.

  • Venuu, a Helsinki, Finland-based “Airbnb for event spaces“, raised €425,000 ($489,800) in funding. Backers included SanomaVentures, Reaktor Polte and business angels. The company intends to use the funds to speed up international expansion, firstly in Sweden, where Venuu.se has already nearly 300 venues.

  • Platform therapeutic company Symic Biomedical, Inc. has received a $1.5 million Phase II SBIR grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to further develop its therapeutic agent to reduce arteriovenous fistula (AVF) failures, a significant unmet clinical need in end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis. The two-year project, funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), will allow Symic to perform additional preclinical efficacy studies and advance lead candidate SBCV-030 towards clinical development. 

  • London-based startup, Pronto has now secured £1 million ($1.6 million) in seed funding from a collection of investors including Playfair Capital and Seedcamp. Other investors include the London Co-Investment Fund, Ballpark Ventures (run by Russell Buckley), Patrick de Laive (co-founder of The Next Web) and several other undisclosed strategic angel investors from EU VCs and food businesses.

  • Centerline Biomedical, Inc. has recently closed on a $1.7Million seed investment to advance its cutting-edge vascular navigation system based on the research from Cleveland Clinic's Heart & Vascular Institute. The funding provides critical resources for the next phase of development and additional testing of Centerline's proprietary surgical navigation system. Centerline technology significantly reduces the radiation exposure to patients and caregivers and provides the surgeon with a "GPS-like" tool, making these procedures safer, more accurate, and cost-effective. The platform technology is first aiming to revolutionize the endovascular aneurism repair market, but plans are in place to address a variety of vascular procedures.  

  • MagicCube announced today that it raised $2.2Million in a seed round of funding from Azure Capital, Epic Ventures, as well as Bialla Venture Partners and private investors. MagicCube’s groundbreaking software-only technology secures digital transactions on any mobile device, independent of its hardware or operating system, stopping digital transaction fraud where most vulnerabilities can be found today: at the endpoint.

  • Thailand- and US-based enterprise communications solution provider Eko Communications announced today that it has secured $5.7 million in a Series A round led by venture capital firm Gobi PartnersA few investors who participated in previous rounds also joined in this latest round. The new injection of funds will be used to expand Eko’s eponymous flagship mobile enterprise communication platform’s business in Southeast Asia and East Asia, especially in China, increase marketing efforts, and up its headcount.

  • When large air-conditioning units and other equipment malfunction, building owners can face significant financial consequences. Startup Augury Inc. says it has figured out a way to troubleshoot machine problems early by listening to the sounds they emit. Venture firm Formation 8 used its new hardware-focused fund to lead a $7 million Series A round for the startup, Augury Chief Executive and co-founder Saar Yoskovitz told VentureWire. Pritzker Group, a family office that has large real estate holdings, is also investing, as well as returning backers First Round Capital and Lerer Hippeau Ventures.

  • AirVM, a cloud management platform company, today announced it has closed $8 million in Series A funding. Led by RHO Canada Ventures, joined by Build Ventures, and current investor Wesley Clover, the Series A financing positions AirVM for continued global growth as they scale to meet the demand for their cloud management platform, AirSembly. The company will also leverage this funding to expand into new regions, new cloud services, and new platform technologies.

  • Roughly three months after it closed a $5 million round, MediBeacon, a medical device startup located in St. Louis County, landed another $22.4 million from Pansend LLC, an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of HC2 Holdings Inc. MediBeacon is a developer of real-time kidney monitoring technology, an area of need in intensive care units. The money will be used to bring the technology to market. 

  • Intel Corp. has poured more than $60 million into Yuneec International Co., a Shanghai-based drone and aerospace company, as a broad range of technology companies investigate the possible commercial uses of unmanned aircraft. Intel and Yuneec will work on developing future products, the companies said Wednesday.
