Is the Vine app for Windows Phone almost here?

Twitter may have accidentally unveiled that the already announced app is close to being finished

Earlier today, we reported on the news that Twitter had made some pretty significant improvements to its official Windows Phone app, with new features designed specifically for that phone. And that was significant because of the position that Microsoft is coming to occupy in the smartphone marlet.

But there was another piece of news that we apparently missed. In fact, so did almost the entire rest of the Internet. But, thanks to the eagle eyes of the good folks over at The Next Web, we now know that Twitter may have accidentally revealed its next move when it comes to Windows Phones: an official Vine app.

In the announcement, Twitter released an image showing how it was making search easier for Windows Phone users, by allowing them access their favorite topics by pinning key word searches to your homescreen. One of those images, which I did not even notice, was of a Vine app, which you can see clearly below:

To some, this might seem like Twitter was trying to tease the its next offering, but this seems to have been accident, as it has since been removed from the post. This being the Internet, nothing that is posted ever truly goes away, so you can see the image in its original context here.

What's curious, though, is that it is no secret that Twitter is going to be releasing a Vine app for Windows Phone. In fact, the company already confirmed that a few months ago. So, the question now becomes, why remove the image? 

Twitter has not given any official timeframe for when the app might debut, so is it coming soon? It would make sense for it to be released in conjunction with the brand new updates to the official Twitter app that were released today.

Its not a surprise that Twitter would want to release Vine for Windows Phone. It is debuted on iOS and was released on Android in June. Following its debut on Android, the app tripled its number of users, from 13 million to 40 million by August. 

I would not expect such a dramatic increase to come from the launch of a Windows Phone app, but Microsoft is quickly becoming the number three platform, behind iOS and Android.

While Microsoft's overall market share did not see much of an increase in the second quarter of this year, going from 3.1% to 3.7%, it saw a huge increase in shipments: going from 4.9 million to 8.7 million. That is an increase of 77.6%.

Honestly, if Twitter had simply left the image up, I don't think anyone would have thought anything of it. But now that they have taken it down, it has to make you wonder what exactly they don't want us to know.
