And now you can give the gift of a hotel room with HotelTonight Gift Credits

Last-minute hotel booking app HotelTonight is ramping up its international expansion efforts.  The company announced Tuesday that it has landed in continental Europe and tomorrow it will be live in Mexico.

HotelTonight kicked off its international expansion earlier this year with its initial launch in London—just in time for the Olympics.  From there it branched out to several other cities throughout the UK, including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Liverpool.  Starting today, HotelTonight is available with initial hotel offerings in Paris, Nice, Brussels, and Amsterdam, and tomorrow, users in Mexico City and Acapulco will be able to book rooms through HotelTonight.

Hotel partners include Le Burgundy in Paris, Banks Mansion in Amsterdam, Boscolo Exedra in Nice, The Dominican in Brussels, Hotel Habita in Mexico City, and Las Brisas Hotel Collection in Acapulco, among others.  HotelTonight has also added cities in the U.S. and Canada, including Calgary, Vail/Breckenridge, and Lake Tahoe.  The app now supports more than 70 locations worldwide.

Co-founder and COO Jared Simon tells me that HotelTonight’s international growth is already outpacing its U.S. growth at similar points.  The company sees this as evidence that “the HotelTonight model will be even more successful in international markets than it has been in the US.”

In addition to the new cities, HotelTonight has also updated its iOS and Android apps to support several languages, including French, German, Italian, and Spanish.  The new updates also come with currency converters, as well as mobile-optimized photos.

HotelTonight is currently offering gift credits—which is essentially giving the gift of a hotel room.  Gift credits can be purchased on the site via the “HT Gift Credits” link, or you can purchase them through the app via the options/preferences tab.

HotelTonight raised a $23 million Series C round over the summer, bringing its total raised to $35 million.  In September, the app added personalized hotel options.

Simon says that HotelTonight’s repeat booking rate is much higher than the industry average, and that the app does particularly well on holidays and three-day weekends.

“Of course, there's also the added benefit of being able to quickly book a night at a hotel for visiting family members who have, shall we say, overstayed their welcome.”
