State of the Union - SoCal's startup ecosystem
Neal Hansch, VC at Rustic Canyon Partners, gives an overview of the LA tech scene
The Southern California, or SoCal, tech scene is on fire. To show just how active the LA area is with new startups and incubators, Neal Hansch, partner at Rustic Canyon Partners, gave a mini State of the Union presentation of what's happening across the tech startup scene.
First Hansch talked about the sectors that are getting traction, such as digital media, e-commerce, gaming, direct marketing and clean tech. He also gave an overview of some of the up-and-comers, such as Beachmint, which has raised $75 million from notable VCs such as Accel Partners, Goldman Sachs, New World Ventures, Millenium Technology Value Partners, NALA, NEA, Trinity Ventures and Scale Ventures. Then there's Shoedazzle, which raised a total of $60 million, with the most recent funding coming from Andreessen Horowitz. Past investors include Lightspeed Venture Partners and Polaris Venture Partners. TrueCar, which has raised about $250 million in venture financing. And, there's also TrueCar, whose founder and CEO, Scott Painter, gave an insipring and humble presentation at our last Vator Splash event.
Hansch also outlines which incubators and accelerators are sprouting up. Interested in knowing what's happen in SoCal? This is a good video to watch.
Hansch was speaking at the Vator Splash LA 2012 conference.
