Interview with founder and CEO Doron Reuveni on growth plans for the crowd-sourcing testing platform

UTest, with some 50,000 freelance engineers around the world has become the resource for Web and mobile testing since launching in 2007. The Boston-based start-up has raised $37 million in funding to date, with $17 million recently raised in December, led by QuestMark Partners.

I recently caught up with Doron Reuveni, founder and CEO, to talk about how his crowd-sourcing testing platform works for the 1000 customers, such as Google and Box, that use uTest services to provide load testing, usability and other services to ensure sites are working optimally.

Here's a few highlights:

- uTest is a social network for professional testers.

- SMBs (small- to medium-sized businesses) pay a median price of $3000 a month. For that price, they can get as many as 20 dedicated testers. Enterprise prices are much higher. Google tests 14 different product lines with uTest.

-  Developers get paid only if they deliver quantified value to the customer. UTest distributes the workload depending on the profile of the job and tester.

- Providing load testing and usability testing are fairly new areas for uTest. But in 2012, uTest plans to focus more on the enterprise and its uTest Deluxe package.

Watch the rest of the interview to hear more about uTest and how uTest complements or competes with other testing start-ups, such as SOASTA, Blazemeter and 99Test.
