Facebook's Timeline is finally here

You might as well call-in sick today, the new Facebook layout is now available to all users

Put on your party dress, get the chilled champagne, and start moving those noise makers: Facebook's long-awaited Timeline feature is now available for one and all as of Thursday morning.

The Timeline feature that was announced in September at the f8 conference, and then the company was mum about for nearly four months, rolled-out in New Zealand earlier this month and finally has gone global.

For those who didn't know that everything was going to change today, prepare your self for the revolution to occur.

This ambitious layout makeover completely redesigns how people interact with profiles. Everyone should have the function as of now and you have seven days review the feature before your friends can see your new shiny set-up. Already more than 1 million people are using the feature, according to Facebook.

Quick, Quick -- How do I get it?

First of all, breathe. All you have to do is go to the Introducing Timeline Page and click the "Get It Now" button at the bottom of the screen.

With a design reminiscent of a scrapbook, Timeline the biggest redesign Facebook has ever undertaken. Since the change is so drastic, Facebook is giving people a one-week review period to delete or hide anything on the Timeline before anyone else gets a peek -- I'd start by deleting anything from college parties and passive-aggressive messages with your, now, exes. 

But this clean-up period also lets you pick the things you want to highlight -- all of those pictures taken on your "good side" can go to the top of the page.

If you are wondering what everyone is doing on their Facebook pages today, it might be strolling down memory lane since this feature lets users see their entire activity history and for those of us that have been with the social network since the beginning, this could be more of a marathon than a stroll.

This feature should spur a lot of buzz and feedback for the next few days, while people see the limits and benefits of virtually scrapbooking their social lives -- but it undoubtedly will also reveal the limits. Facebook is probably standing at the ready for all the feedback they will get and, hopefully, users will come up with ideas and upgrade ideas to keep the Palo Alto-innovators on their toes.
