Docphin's online solution for doctors to expand into 2012, actively looking for investors

Docphin, a new online platform for working physicians to personalize their news and research, launched into public Beta on Monday.

Docphin has been called "Bloomberg for doctors" by founders Mitesh Patel, Derek Juang, and Sachin Nanavati. Site founders partnered with senior Web developer, Jon Wear, in their efforts to create a centralized dashboard interface for physicians to access and organize research documents and relevant news items to keep abreast of the most current findings in the medical community.

The site has been in testing for a year, undergoing an involved refinement process. Docphin's aggregation technology will cull from medical journals, news media, and, interestingly, Twitter feeds of physicians.

Physicians will be able to create a personalized page "in five minutes," according the company's press release, with simple filters enabling users to organize and browse articles with links to the original source. Docphin will also have social networking options, which will allow users to share articles quickly, post comments on articles, and/or save articles for later viewing.

Docphin had fostered partnerships with three major academic medical facilities: University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, and UC San Diego. They plan to expand into 2012, are currently self-funded and looking for investors.

"Over the next few months, Docphin will rollout additional features and services that will drive additional value to users and drive revenue for Docphin," said Docphin co-founder Sachin Nanavati to VatorNews.

Docphin's three founders have backgrounds straddling the line between medical research/pratice and business. Patel has worked as both a physician and researcher, as well as the business development consultant for over ten healthcare startups.

Nanavati's previously worked at IMS consulting group, which provides stratgies for pharmaceutical companies. Juang works as both as a staff physician at the Dept of Veteran Affairs in San Diego and as an associate professor in clinical medicine at UC San Diego.
