Rev Up for the Mac Tools US Nationals Coming to Lucas Oil Speedway
Can’t get enough of the NHRA national events this year? Well, neither can we!
Wednesday, August 31 through Monday, September 5, Lucas Oil Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana is the place for the next big NHRA event - The 2011 Mac Tools US Nationals. All of your favorite drivers will reconvene at the starting line to compete for a Wally in some the most action-packed racing the Speedway has ever seen.
Labor Day weekend has always been the perfect time to host this national event, and this year is sure to be no less spectacular. Lucas Oil Speedway is regarded by many as one of the smoothest tracks in the NHRA line up, and this year the stakes are high again. To keep you “on-point” as to what this race means, the Mac Tools US Nationals event is the final chance for teams “on the bubble” to earn points and qualify for the “Countdown to the Championship” playoffs – a six-race run for a series championship.
They say that no career is truly complete without a win at drag racing’s grandest event. Last year, Larry Dixon and Ashley Force Hood made it to the winner’s circle alongside first time Mac Tools U.S. Nationals victors Greg Stanfield and LE Tonglet. This year, Larry goes up against some tough competition again. Drivers Del Worsham, Spencer Massey, and Antron Brown really have their cars dialed in. The teams are all top-notch and poised to take it all when the green light goes on.
In Funny Car, count on Mike Neff and Robert Hight to do what it takes to hang on to the points lead, as these two drivers are setting the tone for what is expected if you plan on being a champion Funny Car driver. Ashley will be there as well, but should be taking a racing hiatus following the birth of her new baby boy on Thursday, August 8. We’re all quite sure she won’t be far from the starting line though.
Between qualifying race sessions is the best time to find the concessions and grab something to eat or a nice cold beer. This is also the perfect time to make the rounds in the pit areas and shake hands with your favorite driver, get an autograph or two, or even pose for a photo. The drivers are THAT accessible! Pit access is one of the best things about attending an NHRA event. You can get up close and personal with the machines that crank out 8000hp of ground pounding thunder that you have to feel to believe. And like everyone always says: “You have to feel it to believe it.”
So grab the kids, the car keys, and bring the whole family down to the Speedway. You do not want to miss any of the action at what is called the “World’s Largest Drag Race” at Lucas Oil Speedway.
