Whether It Is Your First NHRA Event or Your 100th
Whether It Is Your First NHRA Event or Your 100th – Once You Attend, You Are Hooked
NHRA has the most enthusiastic and loyal fans in sports.
As soon as you enter a raceway, you are immediately overwhelmed by the smell of nitro, the roar of the cars and the way they make the ground shake, the mouth-watering aroma of the food stands, and best of all, the people. It’s like a three day party with your friends. It is absolutely impossible not to have a great time.
It does not matter who you are, how much money you make, or what you look like – once you are at the track, everyone is the same and everyone is a friend. And you never know who you might be walking and talking to in the pits – most of the drivers and crew members are wonderfully down to earth and happy to talk with fans like they’ve known them forever. Anyone who has ever attended a NHRA event is sure to have at least one great story about how one of their favorite drivers interacted with them personally.
Where else can you walk thru the pits and interact with the drivers and crew? “Watch out! John’s coming by on his scooter.” “Move over. They are bringing The Army car in.” Everyone moves around about so casually and unpretentious that you actually feel like you are part of the family. Where else can you tweet Courtney Force and have her come out of her trailer to sign autographs?
If it is your first time at an NHRA event, make sure you stop by one of the cars getting tuned up for a “Nitro Fix.” There is nothing else like it in the world. Though the thought of your eyes and nose burning and watering isn’t the most appealing, there is no better feeling or way to start a race weekend off than with a good fix of nitro! If you have had one, you understand what I’m talking about. If not – what are you waiting for?
From walking through the garage area, to sitting in the stands or watching at the fence, being at the races is an experience like no other, whether you are a John Force fan or a Tony Pedregron fan.
There are people of all ages at the event – from babies with big ear muffs to grandparents in wheelchairs. Everyone has a permanent smile on their face. Notice that you will never see a fight out at the track and you don’t even hear kids crying. But then again, who can hear much with dragsters flashing by at 300+ miles an hour.
The whole track is a sea of racing shirts, baseball hats, little tank tops and other interesting outfits. If you ever get the opportunity to camp or RV at the track, you have to do it! It is a three-day tailgating party, with all the fun and none of the drama.
A NHRA weekend is definitely like no other sporting event. Nothing can compare!
