The company provides LED lighting solutions to industrial facilities

Industrial lighting solution provider Digital Lumens announced Tuesday that it has closed a $10 million Series B round that was raised from all of the company’s previous investors: Black Coral Capital, Flybridge Capital Partners, and Stata Venture Partners. The new funding brings the company’s total raised to $25 million.

Founded in 2008, the Massachusetts-based company provides LED lighting solutions to industrial facilities, including warehouses, cold storage facilities, and manufacturing facilities. It kind of brings to mind the quintessential scene in any scary movie when the unaware victim is walking through a quiet, dimly lit warehouse. Now that warehouse can be even more dimly lit for heightened dramatic effect!

Among all the real warehouses that people don’t get killed in, however, those LED lights make a lot of sense. They cut down on energy costs by as much as 90% and lower maintenance costs. And Digital Lumens’ “Intelligent Lighting System” also allows for the integration of controls and sensors, all in one system.

Additionally, the company provides customized lighting services in its LightRules lighting management software, an intuitive, Web-based interface that collects energy consumption data and occupancy details from its Intelligent Light Engines. The data is then presented in a chart so that building managers and engineers can get a better understanding of a facility’s lighting and energy consumption patterns. Customers include Americold, United States Cold Storage, Maines Paper and Food Service, and others.

"The Company has rapidly taken a leadership position in the intelligent lighting market with an innovative, systems-based approach and superior products that are meeting customers' needs, while revolutionizing the economics of industrial lighting,” said Jon Karlen, General Partner at Flybridge Capital Partners, in a statement. “We see such compelling opportunities for Digital Lumens that, while outside interest was strong, the existing investors opted to expand our commitment instead."

The company was recently recognized as a 2011 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, as well as a 2010 Global Cleantech 100 Company. Additionally, the company was named a 2011CERAWeek Energy Innovation Pioneer, and was also awarded a Plant Services 2010 Best Practices Award. Building Operation Management named Digital Lumens one of the Top Products of 2011.
