Walmart goes mobile, Seedcamp starts, Verizon opens app store and Facebook foils two more felons


StorSimple, a cloud storage service based out of Santa Clara, raised $13 million is B Series. The round was lead by Mayfield Fund and Ignition Partners, with participation from Index Ventures and Redpoint Ventures. This round of funding brings the company's total to $21 million.

Nokia released three new smart phone models at the Nokia world event in London. Models include the Nokia C7, Nokia E7 and the Nokia C6. The C7 and C6 are full screen while the E7 features a slide out keyboard.

Intel Capital invested $30 million in Adpative Computing, Ciranovo, Joyent and Nexant. This was done as a part of the $200 million Intel Capital Invest in America Technology Fund, which invests in US based startups.

Primal, a content automation service, is expected to be launched this week at the Demo conference. The site allows users to create a site of aggregated links by typing in a few keywords.


Verizon launches an app store, called V CAST Apps. The new software will be on Verizon devices running Android 2.2, which does include several members of the Drioid family of phones.

Walmart and T-Mobile teamed up to create a mobile phone service. The plan, which will run about $45 per month for one line is called Wal-Mart Family Mobile and will offer five phones.

Facebook profile helps NC police to catch Justin Carl Moose of Concord, after he posted instructions on how to make a bomb on his profile. His intended target was the local Planned Parenthood. This comes at the same time a Deleware man was busted for pedophilia, after posting a photo of himself with a 14 year old girl on his account.

Seedcamp Week kicked off with a record number of attendees from 23 teams. The event, which was held in London at University College, included particiapants like Albia, Editd, GetAGreatBoss and Hypezoo.

Quicksee has been bought out by Google, and will become part of the Google Geo team. The final buy out was $12 million.

Bebo is back, or at least it will be when they decide on a new direction. The site intends to try some new things with its 6 million user base, but is not yet sure if they will include video or mobile support features yet.

John Mayer quits Twitter, with 3.7 million followers. According to a post on his blog, it is because he has found a new love, Tumblr.
