Lady Gaga blasts past one billion video views
Just Dance, Poker Face, and Bad Romance help propel Gaga to the top of viral video charts
Lady Gaga, a pop sensation crafting her own special blend of catchy glam, and dance, is the first artist to hit one billion online video views, thanks to her three most popular music videos.Poker Face (374,606,128 views), Just Dance (272,941,674 views), and Bad Romance (360,020,327 views) combined give Lady Gaga just over a billion views, according to data from video analytics company Visible Measures.
Visible Measures regularly updates the 100 Million Club, a list of the most-watched viral videos of all time. Two of Gaga's videos--"Poker Face" and "Bad Romance"--claim top ten spots, while "Just Dance" sits a little lower at #17. Nevertheless, the combined force of the three videos means that Lady Gaga has indisputably secured herself as one of the most watched video artists ever.
While Soulja Boy tops the 100 Million Club with Crank Dat (722,438,268), it's the second-place holder--the Twilight saga--that truly rivals Lady Gaga's viewership with its 980 million total views. Soulja Boy has about 860 million views, in total.
Visible Measures gets its final numbers by looking across all major video sites, included those embedded elsewhere. Out of the 65 videos with over 100 million views, more than half are music videos.
If Lady Gaga's latest video, a 10-minute epic called Telephone, acquires heights as great as her other works, the pop artist may soon be approaching another milestone very quickly: 2 billion video views. Already though, Gaga has proven the power of online video in reaching a mass audience.
