Battery Ventures, Altos Ventures and Illuminate Ventures invest in SEO management platform

BrightEdge, a startup offering a search engine optimization platform, announced on Tuesday it raised $6.5 million in funding.  Battery Ventures led the round, with existing investors Altos Ventures and Illuminate Ventures also particpating.

The San Mateo, California-based startup aims to help Websites improve their ranking on search engines, like Google or Yahoo for example.  BrightEdge offers its product as an SaaS platform enabling users to manage organic search, as well as provides analytics and reporting for its clients, helping improve SEO performance.

Although the company won't disclose its clients, it said it's worked with a leading enterprise software company, a leading travel site, a fortune 500 retailer and a large online agency.

Along with the investment, BrightEdge said it's built a sort of all-star team which includes architects of the original Google deployment at AOL, Digg and Salesforce.

Satya Patel from Battery Ventures commented, "With this deep expertise in search and Enterprise SaaS, BrightEdge is uniquely positioned to deliver the leading enterprise-class organic search management solution."

BrightEdge said it would use the investment to accelerate its entry into the market and expand engineering and operations to support a fast growing number of customers it's currently seeing.
