From sports magazines to Beethoven’s musical scores, traditional print is being replaced with the increase of digital archiving. With improved organization, availability, and simplicity, digital archiving presents many opportunities for the common user. With an offer like this, you can depend on innovative entrepreneurs to find a way to sell the service, or maybe even give it away for free.

Shoeboxed is a company founded in 2006 and based in Durham, North Carolina. The company utilizes the efficiency and convenience of online organization to deliver its service: sorting receipts. The idea is simple: you scan your receipt and upload it onto the Shoeboxed website and organize using the free tools provided. And, doing all this costs you, NOTHING! With the free account, you can use as much space as you want, export to Quicken, Excel, PDF expense report, CSV, itemize tracking for receipts, create spending charts and analytics, and create an email address for online shopping which will send receipts straight to the Shoeboxed site for sorting. But although this will not cost you any money, Shoeboxed is aware that the time it takes to scan the hundreds of receipts you have lying around may put you off from using their services: so Shoeboxed will do it for you.

For a monthly account fee which ranges from $9.95-$59.95, depending on the account type, Shoeboxed will scan your receipts for you, all you have to do is send them in the mail. And, for those who really need their receipts organized fast, Shoeboxed offers the most expensive “express” account, which guarantees customers a 1 business day processing time. The most popular account, which is priced at $19.95 per month will not guarantee one business day, but does return receipts by mail and sets the receipt limit per envelope at 500 receipts. Additionally, bulk scanning is available for those of us who have held off for too long on organizing our receipts.

The Shoeboxed goal is clear: to make it easy and convenient to digitize, organize, analyze, and export receipts. With convenience and practicality, the Shoeboxed service appeals both to businesses and individuals. With emphasis on keeping users’ information safe and providing “awesome customer support!” the Shoebox team is likely to see growth in both customers and investors. With already existing angel funding from several different sources, Shoeboxed appears to be on its way to becoming a leader in the digitization revolution.
