The U.S. search market has been pretty much carved up by now, with Google dominating and other huge players like Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL taking most of the remaining pieces of the pie.

Yet Krugle founder and CEO Steve Larsen says there will be room in the search market for smaller players like his because it will be upstart search companies focused on vertical niches, and not today's dominant players, that will produce future innovations.

"Five years from now, we're going to look back on the big search companies the same way we look at the big (television) networks today," says Larsen, whose company allows developers to search for code inside corporate software programs.
