YourTrumanShow wants to make everyone a Web video star
Unless you've been sleeping in a cave for the last two years, you know that YouTube is the primary Web site used by ordinary people to distribute their favorite videos online.
But while its massive number of videos and page views attest to its success, YouTube's sheer size has made it difficult to get a clip noticed or locate one that doesn't make one of the most-viewed lists.
That problem is being attacked by several startups, and YourTrumanShow is among the latest Web video companies to join the fray.
"YouTube is hard to navigate," says Matteo Fabiano, COO of YourTruman Show.
In a nod to the movie which inspired the company's name, YourTrumanShow wants to make it easy for any Web user to get their own story online. The company's beta site has a channel for video bloggers and, with an eye toward the lifecasting market, another one for Web video diaries.
"We want to focus on storytellers, let them tell their own story," Fabiano says.
Toward that end, the company's interface does a good job of allowing users to find related stories and follow them as the updated over time.
In an effort to differentiate itself from rivals like justin.tv, the San Francisco-based startup has built a widget that makes it easier for YourTrumanShow storytellers to find content that's similar to their and mash it together on social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace.
Fabiano says the startup also plans to try to develop some of its best user content into series not unlike reality TV shows.
The San Francisco-based company is in the process of raising a Series A round. You can see their Vator.tv video pitch here.
