Although amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is something you don’t hear of everyday, it does affect over 5,600 people in the US every year. The neurological disorder is commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, after a famous baseball player who was forced to retire at the age of 36 due to its effects and died 2 years later.
