Dr. Rainer Gruessner was appointed the University of Arizona’s Chairman of the Department of Surgery in 2007. His specialty is in transplantation surgery, for which he is a widely respected and pioneering physician. His main focus in his illustrious career has been pancreas and liver failure as well as pancreas and liver cancer.
His passion is developing minimally invasive transplant surgery techniques that improve the quality of life of countless people with chronic liver and pancreas conditions. Dr. Gruessner has also served the University of Arizona as the Surgical Director of the Hepatopancreaticobiliary program and Chief of the Division of Transplantation.Dr. Rainer Gruessner received his medical education in Germany.
