What seems to be a trend today in IT is to hire someone to keep your company 10 years behind. I am not saying that there are no really forward thinking and innovative C.I.Os out there. But, in many cases, they are just there to shoot down any idea that borders on future forward. Let’s take support for instance. Many C.I.nOs think that support is an afterthought when in reality it should be their first thought. I can have a company with the greatest product since sliced, gluten free bread but who will support it when it tastes like wood chips? Why would a C.I.O say no to Social I.T. support and management? The only reason I can think of is that the absence of major problems means the extinction of the C.I.nO as we know it. It would be a little like the T-rex or as I like to call it the T-rexxx. He was big, loud and scary but in the end he became premium gasoline and cheap Chinese plastic toys. We should demand that C.I.Os open their eyes to the potential of having millions of qualified support professionals at their fingertips. I am not trying to change history or the world. I just want to show that dinosaur the future using Techshare. Maybe we could have had velociraptors as pets instead of pugs.
