Facebook plays Foursquare and cheats- On Thursday Facebook, the titan of social networking, launched its Places app that directly competes with Foursquare. They also issued an apology to Enormego for not attributing where they got their source code for “Pull to Refresh” on Facebook version 3.2 for the iPhone.
PlaySpan raises real money- PlaySpan announced they raised $18 million in funds from Vodaphone Ventures and SoftBank Bodhi Fund to expand its products, sales, and marketing on a global basis.
Google challenges Facebook- Google reaches 100 million users with Google Maps for Mobile. Google is also talking about doing movies and a Chrome Webstore. Google also changed its Gmail services to be more user friendly.
Apple makes a shift- Apple announces that it will shut down Quattro’s Mobile Ad network, which it acquired for $275 million earlier this year, to focus solely on iAd.
Groupon smashes records- Groupon launched its first national deal with GAP, offering $50 of apparel for $25.
Yahoo on the iPad- Yahoo launched a new HTML 5 based version of Yahoo mail for the iPad.
Korea continues fighting- South Korea banned North Korea’s Twitter account within the nation for security reasons.
