Social gaming network Raptr announced Thursday that it has raised a $15 million Series B round of funding led by DAG Ventures with participation from new investor Tenaya Capital and existing investor Accel Partners.
The company has raised $27 million to date.
In tandem with the funding, Raptr also revealed that its service has attracted six and a half million members. The website sees over a million unique visitors daily and 5.5 million unique visitors monthly. Out of the 43,579 games in the Raptr network, top franchises include Call of Duty, Warcraft, Zynga and Assassin’s Creed. (For more juicy data, like minutes logged on the service and the top game franchises, check out the infographic embedded at the bottom of this post.)
Raptr provides a platform for gamers to chat while playing their favorite games. Users can talk to friends on any of a handful of networks, including AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Xfire, GTalk, ICQ, Facebook and Xbox Live.
If any of those friends are playing on Xbox Live, Playstation or Steam accounts, you can see what games they’re playing in real-time and join in. Raptr doesn’t just show the game, but also specific details like map, ping and game mode. Users can themselves use Raptr to broadcast to Facebook and Twitter what PC, Xbox 360 or Flash games they’re playing at any given moment.
Beyond just these communication features, Raptr provides a platform for tracking in-game achievements, rating and reviewing games, and staying up to date on the most popular games.
The service is completely free to use. It might not be the only social gaming network on the Web, but now it has the funds for a better chance of beating out some of the competition.
Raptr was founded in 2007 by Dennis Fong, a retired professional gamer who also co-founded Xfire, a social networking site for gamers.
