Google Music Search just officially launched in the last week, and it looks like it’s already got a few tricks up its sleeve.

On Tuesday night, Google kicked off a promotion offering free MP3 downloads for a few exclusive tracks from a number of prominent artists. Lala, the music streaming Web site that is central to the success of Google’s new music search capabilities, is hosting a select group of tracks from various musicians and record labels to spur excitement for the new search tool on Google.

Searching for artists, albums, songs, or lyrics on Google Music Search returns a small section at the top of the results with the artist name, usually some sort of album art, a list of tracks, and links to partner sites, be it iLike, Rhapsody, Pandora, iMeem, Lala, or MySpace.

 Google Music Search

Since it’s probably already very common for users to search Google for their favorite musicians and tunes, one might wonder how many more people are going to start flocking to Google Music Search for their music-related queries, as opposed to visiting any of the music services listed above first.

Of course, all of the offered tracks will also be available through Google’s partners’ sites, at Lala and MySpace.

If you’re interested in getting any of the offered tracks, just run a Google search on any of the artists listed below.
