No, their growth is self-perpetuating because facebook is the latest fad, but just like myspace easily became a tool of the past, facebook, and for that matter twitter, likely will as well. I thought same of google a few years ago though and they definitely proved me wrong :)

The Web at large started kindergarten 1994 and "graduated" 2004 (recovered from post-dot-bomb with real business models). The Semantic Web started kindergarten 2005, and needs at least 5 years more to reach comparable maturity. That'd make it a "tween" right now.
